This 1939 Ford Convertible was purchased for $75.00 by Russ Roberts in 1956 in upstate New York. He couldn't resist the Carson chop top. He upgraded the body, spray painted it grey primer with his mother's Electrolux vacuum cleaner. He installed a 302 Olds V8 and enjoyed driving it at local tracks. In 1957 Russ joined the Navy and when home on leave, sold the car. Thirty years later his brother called and said he found the car still registered in his name 10 miles from his old home. He bought the car from the salvage yard and shipped it to Eugene. Russ and his pals rebuilt the body, installed a 1985 302 V8 high performance engine, automatic and nine inch Ford rear end. Mustang independent front suspension and painted it Washington Blue. He proudly drove the reliable 39 for many years until his passing in June. Now the historic car needs a new home.
